A time when everyone vocalizes everything they are thankful for this year. I enjoy reading all the cute stories, the silly stories, and even the serious stories. I rarely share mine. Some might find it borderline generic while others might find some sort of solace in it.
I am thankful, grateful, and blessed for two major things this year:
My sobriety and my saving grace, Lilly.
This November marks 1 year and 9 months sober. It is very liberating that I was spared the fate of certain demise. I somewhat see it as a miracle because I honestly have no idea how I got out alive. If it wasn’t for an amazing boyfriend and his loving family, I probably wouldn’t be here to write this today. I will be forever grateful and blessed someone saw something in me worth helping.
Sobriety takes a lot of willpower. It is not easy. In fact, it has been harder than any of the other curve balls life has thrown to me. It takes a strength and a willpower more powerful than any force in the world. But I am here to say it is possible.
Three months into my sobriety I found out I was pregnant with Lilly. I was so afraid to tell anyone. I thought they would think I wasn’t worthy enough to have her or that I couldn’t be the amazing mom I knew I would be. Deep down inside I didn’t believe I was good enough. I was very sick and miserable my whole pregnancy. The constant worry, fear, and stress I put on myself was far from normal. This is the biggest reason I started blogging.
I had to find a way to distract myself. I continued to be sober throughout my pregnancy and even quit smoking cigarettes. This time my drive wasn’t just for me but also for that little alien inside of me. I had to overcome. I couldn’t give up. Everyone was watching me and probably expecting me to break but I knew she was worth it. This is why I am so thankful for her. She saved me more than anyone did. She was my reason, my calling, to prove everyone that they didn’t know the real me.
There are a million reasons to be thankful, grateful, and blessed. This is my story. It’s my favorite love story. What are you thankful, grateful, and blessed for this year? I’d love to read your stories in the comments below!
