This is the Garnier Color Sensation in Deep Burgundy!
Let me rewind to before I dyed my hair.
I rarely use box hair dyes anymore due to the fact that doing it myself from actually salon products works a lot better and lasts a lot longer. Every now and then I am too broke or to lazy to go by salon dying products so I will buy a boxed dye to freshen up my washed out, grown out hair!
This is my previous hair color which was also a boxed hair dye! This was taken the same day I dyed it so it had washed out and 3 months old by the time I died it again. Doing this post I realized how similar my old color is to my new color yet this color was John Frieda Precision Foam Medium Red Brown!
So let me explain how much I do not like or normally use Garnier products. I have been told by numerous stylists that they wreck your hair and DO NOT use there hair cleaning products if you will be salon dying your hair because sometimes it reacts to the developer and toners and comes out a total different color than what you are expecting. Personally, I have found other products to take care of my hair with that I love a lot better than this brand but, for the sake of being free and needing a hair dye touch up, I decided to use this product. Plus it has been several years since I have used their stuff and was curious if anything has changed!
Garnier Color Sensations promises rich long-lasting color and silky shine from root to tip, 100% gray coverage, and a no mess non-drip cream formula. The box also claims they use “precious oils” to achieve the silky smooth shine! The box contains all the usuals found in a box dye: A developed bottle with developer, tube of colorant cream, after color conditioner, instructions with gloves, and a nifty hair coloring brush used for root touch ups.
So I am glad I read the instructions before I even touched anything because I probably would have scared the shit out of my self. When you first open the developer bottle it literally explodes air out of it from pressure build up! The instructions also state to not seal developer bottle after use because it could explode! Lol uuummm I have never had a boxed hair dye do this so from the start I was apprehensive if I really wanted to put this in my hair lol!
Anyways, I mixed everything together and started dying my hair in sections like I always have done. I was really surprised at how rich and cream the application really was and it was seriously super easy and no mess compared to other products I have used in the past! This really cut the application time in half compared to other products and went on white and looked like a conditioner so it really helped to see which spots I was missing or could add more to. The smell of it was pretty strong and I had to turn on the bathroom fan but it was a nice fruity smell. With this dye you only have to leave it in for 20 minutes which is like no time compared to other dyes! I was afraid washing it out at 20 minutes was not going to be long enough for my hair only because it normally isn’t for other brands but it ended up being long enough! It took forever to get the water to run clear when I was washing it out and even though it was clear and I used the conditioner it still got all over the towel I dry my hair with for the next several days but it doesn’t seem like it is effecting the intensity of the color.
My hair was shiny once it dried but I was disappointed that my hair did not feel as soft as it normally does after I dye my hair. This is one of my favorite things about dying hair so I don’t know if it was the dye that lacked in it’s “precious oils” or if the conditioner, being Garnier, was cheap and shitty! I have since looked at the ingredients in the box to see what oils are the dye and the only thing I saw oil related was mineral oil and camellia oleifera oil which confused the hell out of me! I did not understand any of the other words on the ingredients list lol! The conditioner has apple fruit extract, shea butter, olive fruit oil, avocado oil, black currant seed oil, and lemon peel extract among other ingredients. It seems to me the conditioner had more oils in it than the dye! Regardless of all that good sounding stuff though my hair was not soft at all!
Will I use this product again? Meh I don’t know! It’s been a week and the color is still shiny and vibrant but a part of me just can’t get past the exploding developer bottle and the lack of softness after using! I would recommend the product to people who aren’t so skilled at dying their hair or teenagers because the application process was so flawless and easy breezy! Clean up was also easy and came off the skin and towels I used very well!
