If you are a makeup and beauty geek you probably giggled a little to yourself with my play on words in the title. It’s Christmas so what’s more fitting than to do a cosmetics review with e.l.f. Everything I got in my Influenster VoxBox this month is actually kind of new to me besides the bronzer/highlighter.
Who is e.l.f. Cosmetics
e.l.f is a top quality makeup line that provides professional makeup at a more affordable price. Their cosmetics are mineral based and are designed to leave a long, lasting glow on your skin. They believe that women should be able to look like a million bucks at a fraction of the cost than other premium brands. They pretty much offer all the things the more expensive cosmetic lines do.
What ‘s in My Influenster VoxBox
I was pleasantly surprised with all of the goodies in my e.l.f. box. All of them were so fitting with the holidays and the dry weather that comes with Winter. This Influenster VoxBox included:
My Cosmetics Review
In the next section I am going to break down my honest review of each product that I used. While all of these products were amazing some of them had tiny flaws that might only be issues for me and not everyone else. I will thoroughly explain, to the best of my knowledge, why these flaws may have happened.
When I first got this I was like what the hell is a bubble mask? It doesn’t even come in a bottle that looks like a mask? Instead it comes in a bottle similar to serums. It has the push down button dispenser with the hole in the middle like some eye serums and some moisturizers have.
The e.l.f. Hydrating Bubble Mask is a new product for them. To put it simply, the product is a gel that transforms into a bubble mask when applied to the face. Once applied, the bubbles are suppose to foam to remove excess dirt and cleanse pores.
First off, this stuff smells A-MAAAA-ZING. I can’t really describe the smell but it’s somewhere between fresh and slightly fruity. It’s probably the best smelling face product I have ever smelt! Anyways, you’re suppose to apply a thin layer to damp skin, per the instructions, and watch as bubbles slowly begin to form. Then you are suppose to leave it on for 5-10 minutes or until the bubbles start disappearing.
You can see in my picture above some of the foamy bubbles but honestly I feel like it should have been way more. I applied the product a second time a little thicker and still got the same results. At this point I just accepted this is what it is and obviously it is doing something because there are bubbles in certain areas. Because of the lack of bubbles, they quickly disappeared before the 5 minute mark. I continued to wait til I got to 5 minutes before rising off. I was still thinking about the yummy smell LOL!
After washing off, my face did feel really clean. I have oily/combination skin so I KNOW when my face gets a nice cleaning. The only complaint I have is my face did feel a little to clean to where my skin felt somewhat tight but the label does say to use moisturizer after this product. The number one thing I noticed is how soft my face felt afterwards. It was very tempting not to keep touching it. Also, for those of you who have sensitive skin or prone to acne break outs like me from new face products…I did not have this issue!!!
Overall, I give this product a 4 stars.
Ok, confession time! I have never used a face primer before! :0 I know right? Like I mentioned above, I have oily/combination skin so I have always been afraid to put a primer on instead of just moisturizer. I’ve always been afraid it will clog my pores and cause my skin to crazy!
e.l.f. Mineral Infused Face Primer was a very pleasant experience for me so before I dive in with my input let me explain what it does. This is the clear version. They also have it a lavender, green, and beige that all do different facial skin corrections. The clear one was developed to combat excessive oil (HELLO that’s me), flaky dryness, enlarged pores, and fine lines so you’re makeup can go on satin smooth. Um, I don’t know about you but this speaks to me!
So it comes out of the bottle as a gel and I was afraid this was going to be heavy but it was nowhere near what I thought it was going to be. It went on so light! It absorbed very quickly and seriously guys I swear my skin transformed right before my eyes. Like literally I kept looking at my skin in the mirror all close and shit lol! My natural, slightly uneven skin all of a sudden looked smoother and flawless. Like it legit looked like I had a peel done or something! My face felt so silky soft. You could really feel the light minerals in this stuff like a veil over your face. It also smells amazing!
I chose to apply two different types of foundations I use. Medium coverage CoverGirl Clean and full coverage MAC Studio Fix Fluid. The reason I did this is because my face undertone is stuck somewhere in between light and medium so usually I have to mix two different foundations to get the color I need. I also like to cover up my blemishes, breakouts, and uneven skin tone. This excessive layering though usually causes my foundation to slip throughout the day and you can really see some caking sometimes around dry areas of my face that need to be exfoliated.
This worked amazing to prevent slippage. So much so that my face actually felt dry to the touch instead of slightly oily with a bunch of makeup on. I also noticed when removing with a makeup wipe that there was way more makeup on the wipe at the end of the day then usual. While I still had some issues with fine lines showing around my eyes and forehead, it did create a smooth airbrush finish and the caking was way less than usual. For sure going to find a new foundation routine to use with this or switch to a lighter method.
I give this product a 5!
Yes, this e.l.f. Baked Highlighter and Bronzer is on my eyes. No, it was not a silly mistake! I personally don’t contour my face. It’s just a personal preference. I have nothing against those who do. In fact, I give you props because seriously it is pretty hard to flawlessly pull off and I just don’t have time for all that lol! I do use bronzer in the summer when I am tan but the rest of the year I tend to lay off because I lighten up so much. This is why I chose to show you an alternative to this product by using it as a subtle eyeshadow.
Back in the day I use to rock bold and dark eyeshadows. Now that I am older and a work at home mom, I try to keep it chill and not so rocker/scene girl anymore. The party girl look just doesn’t look good on me anymore! I believe this stuff would be great for those looking for a light contour but if you are seeking a darker bronzer this is not the product for you.
It is enriched with Jojoba, Sunflower, Apricot, and Grape to help nourish and hydrate your skin. It is very shear but nicely pigmented and shimmery. Stays on very well especially with the primer underneath it. Blends really well too.
I give this product a 5 star!
I was super excited for this product. It is so dry here in North Carolina and lets not talk about these crazy winter temperatures. A lip exfoliator is like the must need beauty product of the season! I love e.l.f.’s Lip Exfoliator because it seriously comes in a variety of FLAVORS! This one is Mint Maniac and it felt so nice on my lips as it was being applied and smelt and tasted yummy too. Almost like a sugar scrub!
It is infused with Vitamin e, Shea Butter, Avocado, Grape, and Jojoba oils to help nourish and protect those pretty little pouts during the chapped lips months. It’s also amazing to just use any time of year when you are planning to use a dark colored lipstick, gloss, or matte lipsticks.
I give this a 5 star!
Yes the e.l.f. Matte Lip Color comes with a self sharpener attached to it *cue heavenly music*! It is also a twist up pencil like the push up eyeliners out there (Which I LOVE). I got this in Wine and I was so excited about it because it was the perfect color just in time for my Christmas gathering. It also comes in 14 other beautiful colors from subtle to bold. It’s pretty big too and will last a long time. This matte lipstick also works to moisturize your lips with Vitamins A, C, and E.
It went on very smoothly and easily. Since its sharpened to a point you could easily use it as a lip liner and blend it for an ombre lip look. The color was very vibrant but after drinking out of a water bottle and about an hour into wearing the vibrant color started disappearing. I still had a nice amount of color but to keep it bold and somewhat a moisturized looking matte I had to reapply it.
I give it a 4!
