My baby Lilly was born on the Winter Solstice last year. This is the first official day of Old Man Winter, December 22nd. She was an early bird and, unfortunately for her, born just a few days before Christmas.
Throughout the year, I have been keeping track of all the important milestone purchases new moms would enjoy as gifts. The result is this 2016 Holiday Shopping Guide for Children Under 1.
Many times people have no idea what to get a child under 1 for Christmas. I don’t blame them because I am constantly trying to keep up with what I need. This list will broken down into milestone months to make it easier to find the specific age you are looking for.
Is your baby due around the time Lilly was born? At this stage I would ask mom what she needs still for baby or even for herself. If you want it to be a surprise and thoughtful you can always try these options:
They have high-quality clothing for children of all ages but have a special section for newborns and gift giving.
Veteran’s Day Only Special
I seriously have no idea how I would have survived without this thing! Whether your breast feeding or bottle feeding, every baby (and mom) needs one of these things. Plus, you can wash them in the washer with a quick unzip of the cover or buy different covers. Lilly still uses hers to lay around and air dry after a bath and to play with.
3 – 6 Months
I think the 2 most important things Lilly needed at this stage was her bouncer and her chair. Although most babies aren’t able to sit in the chair yet some are. She for sure needed it mid way through 4 months and started eating some cereal in it.
We used this Fisher Price bouncer from Bed Bath and Beyond and we chose to go with the Fisher Price Sit Me Up Floor Seat. I loved the floor seat because it positions there body naturally to sit unlike other chairs which have been said to restrict certain bodily developments. Plus you never have to fight to stick their legs through some holes!
6 – 9 Months
This is the age the real play begins! It has been my favorite stage so far. I don’t know about anyone else but my child LOVES toys! Any toy that can stimulate the senses is an amazing gift for a child around this age. They have finally become more aware of their surroundings and are curious to explore it all. Lilly loves this silly toy we saw on Nick Jr. all the time called The Chuckle Ball. It vibrates, talks, and does all sorts of things that will make any child laugh and have a good time.
9 – 12 Months
Clothes, clothes, and more clothes! At this stage they have been growing like a weed and everything you bought them two weeks ago doesn’t fit them anymore. Thankfully after 12 months they slow down with the growing and can go about 5 more months until you have to buy more clothes. Every parent will need 12 month clothes at this stage to replenish the closet so check out Gymboree. They have cute outfits, mix and match pieces, accessories and more. They are also very affordable and trendy.
I just bought these cute jammies from their 50% off sale going on now (only #12.48) and got FREE SHIPPING! Here are some other cute items they have:
